After the success in the “Obal roku 2021” (Packaging of the Year) competition, when colleagues from our subsidiary received three awards, another great news came. Sustainable hygiene packaging with a secondary purpose has won the prestigious WorldStar 2022 award.
More than 50 years of awards
WorldStar is a packaging competition organized by the World Packaging Organisation that has been held regularly since 1970. It aims to raise awareness of the importance of packaging as well as recognize innovations and the efforts of individuals and companies delivering innovative solutions.
The judging process has two phases. The jury consists of 36 experts from around the world, representing the member countries of the World Packaging Organization. 440 packaging innovations in various categories were registered this year. Besides worldwide recognition, the winners will receive, for example, permission to use the logo on their promotional materials.
Multifunctionality and sustainability attracted attention
Our subsidiary Chemosvit Folie won the award in the “Packaging Materials and Components” category. Multipurpose PE bag is a sustainable packaging solution.
Colleagues chose a clean PE structure during production to ensure full recyclability. The film contains PCR (post-consumer) and PIR (post-industrial) mechanical recyclate, thus saving material resources.
By reducing the thickness of the packaging by 5–10 μm, they were able to save material during the production. After the contents of the packaging are used, the packaging can serve as a plastic waste bag.
Subsequently, together with other plastic waste, it gets to the recycling line and can be used again as a PCR regranulate to produce a new film. As a result, the packaging solution complies with the circular economy principles and contributes to environmental protection.
The WorldStar Award Ceremony will take place at the IPACK-IMA trade fair in Milan in May 2022. The Chemosvit Folie’s representation will not miss the gala dinner.
