“Packaging of the Year 2020” Award for Tatramelky

Sep 23, 2020 | News

As in previous years, this year again we participated in the “OBAL ROKU” (Packaging of the Year) competition that is certified by the World Packaging Organization. The competition is designed for Czech and foreign companies that come up with interesting packaging solutions. It aims to highlight and promote the best packaging ideas, innovations and technology that appear on the market.

This year we participated in the competition with packaging for Tatramelky –  puffed rice covered in caramel. We are very proud that we succeeded with this packaging solution.

The product has traditionally been packaged in OPP-based laminate. We have developed a more eco-friendly solution with a heat-sealable layer on the bottom side. This packaging is fully recyclable, biodegradable and water-soluble, which means that the waste does not harm the environment.

The packaging was printed on the offset machine with EB curing system. It is a more environmentally-friendly and solvent-free technology. In cooperation with the manufacturer of the packaging machine, the machine was adjusted in a way that it was able to package products into films as well as paper.

Development of this packaging enabled us not only to replace the PP laminate by paper but also advise our customers on adjustment of the packaging machine so it could use both films and paper without any limitations.

Our pre-press studio designed an attractive folk motif for the packaging. Limited edition of Tatramelky is sold in Tatra mountain huts so tourists can enjoy them along with the view of majestic mountain peaks.
