The last time the fair took place was almost six years ago. Breakthrough innovations and packaging solutions that promote sustainability are, therefore, expected in this edition. Chemosvit Folie will take part among the exhibitors at interpack 2023, presenting its product portfolio.

interpack 2023 will take place from 4 to 10 May in Düsseldorf, Germany. The focus will be on packaging materials, machines and other technologies for various industries, including food, bakery and pharmaceuticals. Four themes that have resonated in the packaging industry in recent years will be in the spotlight.
1. Circular economy
This concept is also used in the packaging industry because it can make a significant contribution to reducing unusable waste. Design for recycling is crucial in this respect.
Another aspect of the circular economy is reusable packaging, which has so far been used mainly in restaurants and catering. However, its use can be extended to other areas.
Exhibitors will present sustainable packaging solutions, and panellists will also address the question: “How to ensure that more packaging will be recycled.”
2. Resource use
The world economy is currently marked by a scarcity of raw materials, which, together with climate protection, is leading to efforts to resource efficiency. There is thus a need to reorganise production processes, adjust material flows and address the issue of energy efficiency.
In addition to these issues, it is essential to examine new materials (such as bioplastics) and their areas of application. It is also important to look for new areas of application for traditional materials such as paper.
3. Digital transformation
Big data, augmented reality and remote machine maintenance have already found their way to many packaging manufacturers and are here to stay. Track-and-trace technologies or innovations such as the digital twin also play a major role.
The key is to discover how manufacturers can keep up with these changes by reorganising operations. It is also essential to address the benefits and risks associated with increasingly digital operations. Last but not least, it is necessary to look for areas where digital solutions can support employees.
4. Product safety
The main role of packaging is to protect the product inside and ensure its safety for the consumer. However, in addition to product safety, packaging can also offer another added value – contributing to end consumers throwing away less food.
In addition to improving food waste, there is potential for QR codes and how they can provide additional information about products. In terms of safety, the question arises: “How can packaging show that food is no longer suitable for consumption, in addition to the label?”
