Transport, although often taken for granted, plays a significant role in business from the beginning. It connects the company with suppliers and customers. J. A. Baťa himself was aware of the importance of transport for the dynamics of production, purchasing and distribution. Therefore, it has become an important element in plant development.
Rail transport
First, the construction of the company siding began, which was inaugurated on November 11, 1941. The then president came to see the arrival of the first train. The railway siding has been busy since then. In the 1960s and 1970s, workers loaded and unloaded a thousand wagons a month, with unloading and loading taking place in three shifts.
This type of transport played the most important role from the early 1950s to the late 1980s. The railway transport department ensured the supply of raw materials and the export of products. Raw materials for individual plants – cellulose, PE / PP granulate or coal – came by rail. Whether or not Chemosvit would meet its monthly plan often depended on this department.
Freight transport
The car fleet, in turn, was a great support for investment construction. Tipping vehicles transported building materials. Special machines, excavators and tractors provided earthworks. Company vehicles were also engaged in the transport of waste to landfill and the export of slag from the energy sector.
Passenger transport
Passenger transport was also necessary. Company drivers provided business trips for buyers, sellers and company executives. At that time, about ten drivers worked in the department, who were among the top professionals in Slovchémia companies (association of companies in the chemical industry). Many of them were not only drivers, but also security guards and often also trustees and advisers to their customers.
In the 1990s, a subsidiary, Chedos, was established. It deals with, in addition to international and domestic road transport, rail transport and customs declaration services. It provides in-house logistics services to its sister companies.
